How is Conscious Sedation achieved?

The 2 most common types of Sedation (Sedation Dentistry) used by General and Restorative Dentists who utilize sedation are Oral Conscious Sedation and Inhalation Sedation.

The Oral Medication used for Oral Conscious Sedation in dentistry are from a group of drugs known as Benzodiazapines. The medication produces a very relaxed feeling in patients.  Most patients are so relaxed and at-ease that they remember very few details of the actual procedure. 

For mild to moderate anxiety, inhaling Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen (“laughing gas”) is used frequently.  This is one of the most common forms of Nitrous Oxide Sedation to their patients.
